Privacy policy

Morsel is made by Argon Labs LLC (“we”, “us”). This policy covers the Morsel mobile app and this website, morseltracker.app. Questions? Email support@morseltracker.app.

Morsel does not require an account and contains no analytics, advertising or tracking SDKs. Every feature works with no internet connection. Your food log, weights, custom foods, recipes, goals, profile and settings are never transmitted anywhere.

The single exception is crash reporting. When the app crashes or hits an unexpected error, it sends a diagnostic report through Sentry, our error-monitoring provider, so we can find and fix the bug. A report contains technical information about the failure:

• The error and the code path that produced it (a stack trace).
• Device model, operating system version, and Morsel version.
• A random identifier used to group repeated crashes from the same install. It is not linked to you and does not follow you across apps.

Crash reports never include what you ate, your weight, your profile, your goals or the contents of anything you type or scan. We have disabled Sentry's optional collection of personally identifying information, along with its performance tracing and session replay features. Reports are used only to diagnose and fix defects, and are never sold or shared for advertising.

The only other software in Morsel that talks to the internet is Apple's StoreKit (and, on Android in future, Google Play Billing), which handles the Morsel Unlimited purchase and the restore-purchase button. That traffic goes to Apple or Google under their own privacy policies, and we never see it.

Morsel asks for camera access for one purpose: reading barcodes on food packaging. Frames from the camera are processed on the device to find a barcode and are never stored, never uploaded and never shown to anyone. The barcode number itself is looked up in the database bundled inside the app, so even the lookup happens offline. You can decline the permission and use search instead; nothing else in the app changes.

If you turn on Apple Health sync (part of Morsel Unlimited), Morsel asks Health for permission to read your body weight and to write your body weight and dietary energy (the calories you log). This is entirely optional and off by default.

• Health data stays on your device, between Morsel and the Health app. It is never transmitted to us or to anyone else, and it is never included in a crash report.
• We use Health data only to show and sync your weight and calories inside Morsel. We do not use it for advertising, marketing or any other purpose, and we never sell it — as Apple’s HealthKit rules require.
• Samples Morsel writes are tagged as Morsel’s own, so editing or deleting an entry in Morsel removes only the sample Morsel created, never data another app wrote.
• You can revoke access at any time in the Health app (Sharing → Apps → Morsel) or turn sync off in Morsel’s settings.

Everything you create in Morsel is stored in a local database inside the app's private storage on your device. CSV exports are written to the same private storage and leave the device only when you hand one to the share sheet, at which point it goes wherever you send it (Mail, Files, a spreadsheet app) under that app's rules.

This data is included in your device backups (iCloud or encrypted local backups) under the standard iOS backup rules you control. Deleting the app permanently deletes it from your device.

The food database is bundled inside the app and is built from public sources: USDA FoodData Central (public domain) and Open Food Facts (© Open Food Facts contributors, Open Database License). Searching it and scanning against it happen on your device. No search, scan or lookup is ever sent to us or to those projects, and the derived database and its build script are published openly at github.com/Argon-Labs-LLC/morsel.

Morsel Unlimited is sold through the Apple App Store as a one-time in-app purchase. Payment is handled entirely by Apple under Apple's privacy policy. We never see your name, payment details or billing address. Morsel keeps a local record that the unlock has been purchased so it does not need to ask the store every time you open the app.

morseltracker.app is a static site. It sets no cookies, runs no analytics scripts and embeds no third-party widgets. The calorie calculator on this site runs entirely in your browser; nothing you type into it is sent anywhere. Our hosting provider may keep standard, short-lived server logs (such as IP address and requested page) to operate and secure the service, as described in the provider's own privacy documentation.

If you email us, we receive your email address and whatever you include in the message. We use it only to reply and keep it only as long as needed to help you. We never add you to mailing lists or share your address with anyone.

Morsel is not directed at children under 13, and calorie tracking is not appropriate for young children. The app has no account system, and the only data it collects is anonymous crash reports, which carry no personal information from anyone.

Privacy laws such as GDPR and CCPA give you rights over personal data a company holds about you. Everything you log in Morsel is already fully in your hands, on your device, so there is nothing for us to access, correct, export or delete — and you can export it yourself as CSV at any time. We hold no account records. Crash reports are technical diagnostics that are not linked to your identity, so we generally cannot connect one to a particular person — but if you contact us with the details, we will locate and delete any report we can identify as yours. Support emails you have sent us will be deleted on request.

If we ever change how Morsel works in a way that affects privacy (for example, adding an optional sync feature), we will update this policy first and note the change prominently here and in the app's release notes. The “last updated” date at the top always reflects the current version.
